This four days soft adventure tour is a great introduction to the unique nature and cultures of Myanmar Himalayan region. Putao Valley and its surroundings were closed for foreign visitors for decades and have only recently been opened. The northern most Myanmar is real wilderness its lush jungles, unique flora and fauna attract more and more nature enthusiasts every year but due to hard accessibility Putao has still kept its pristine purity. You will see some interesting villages beautiful lush nature and journey along river in this remote part of Myanmar.

During this soft adventure we make day excursions around areas nearby Putao. We will stay overnights in Putao at comfortable lodging. During our day excursions we will have either packed lunches or eat lunch prepared at local village houses. You will travel on a boat, jeep and by foot to experience some magnificent highlights around Putao Valley.

Itinerary

Day 1ARRIVAL IN PUTAO [-/-/-]

Putao mountains

Upon arrival at Putao airport you will be met by Discovery DMC local guide and transferred to your guest house. Putao lies in a flat valley, jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains etc. After a brief fresh up take a walk around Putao for the orientation

Day 2MACHANBAW AND NAMKHAM [B/L/-]

Early in the morning walk to attractive Putao market (approx 10 minute), often busy with local ethnic tribes. Return to hotel, breakfast and depart by jeep through the vast Putao plain on pebbled road to Naungkhine (20 km, approx one hour), we get off the jeep, cross suspension bridge span across Malikha river to Machanbaw, a small administrative town with beautifully set up colonial style buildings. Here we walk about 30 minutes up to the so-called stone dragon park home for the “stone dragon” snake-like rock formation. Later we board on a local fishermen boat for our upriver journey along Malikha River (approx. 40 minutes) to Namkham, a large Rawan village, situated at the bottom of Namhti mountain range which is rich with biodiversity of flora and fauna. Named after Hkamti Shan name meaning “Golden River” has become the centre of cultivation and is today famous for its sweet fruits production. After a lunch stop we explore the village with social and cultural interactions with its friendly people and continue by boat up the river (about 20 minutes) to the site of famous Kanugmulon Pagoda, said to be one of the 84000 pagodas built by Thiri Dhamma Thawka, the great king. We cross the river to Htawadum where we meet our jeep and transfer back to Putao (14 km, approx one hour).

Day 3MULASHIDI AND ZIYON VILLAGE [B/L/-]

After breakfast we depart by jeep to Mulashidi Lisu village (13 km, approx 20 minutes) through well paved road across part of the Putao plain. Mulashidi, meaning in Lisu “the village stands in the thatch field along Mula River” was built over 50 years ago by the missionaries. Walk around this unique village and enjoy scenery from Mulashidi suspension bridge which spends across Mula River. Here we leave our jeep and start trek along Mula creek (1.5 km, approx 2 hour) to Ziyon, a large Rawan village beautifully set up by Mula River. Here we have a lunch break and maybe some social interactions with the villagers and later visit suspension bridge and enjoy views of the Putao plain having backdrop of snow- capped mountains far in the horizon. Afternoon we return back to Putao and rest of the day is for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the village.

Day 4DEPARTURE [B/-/-]

Putao mountains.

Breakfast and perhaps a last minute shopping at Putao market and some last visits in and around Putao with suggestions by your guide. Lunch and afternoon transfer to airport for your onward departure flight to conclude this unique experience. Discovery DMC will gladly assist with any additional travel plans.
