Putao – Situated 457m 1499ft above sea and located far north of Myanmar in Kachin State, descendent from eastern Himalayan region. The town lies in a flat valley, famous as a jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains. Local tribal communities in Putao region are of Hkamti Shan, Doolin Jimphaw, and white color Rawan, Myanmar’s gypsy Lisu, Pigmy Tarong, hunting community of Htalu and Tibetan who live in the far north of Myanmar in the Himalayas. Putao town and fort was built during 1914~15 by Commissioner Mr. Hertz, hence got known as Fort Hertz. Later a Christian Missionary introduced to the local Rawan and Lisu tribes a number of fruits to cultivate, such as Grapefruit, Washington Naval, Vlincha Orange, Ruby Oranges, King Orange, Mandarin and America Lime.


Highlights

Mulashidi – Meaning in Lisu language “village that stands in the thatch field along Mula River”. This beautifully set up Lisu village lies 14 km south of Putao, is connected by 159 meters long suspension bridge and provides a fascinating view to the far away snow-capped mountains in the backdrop.

Itinerary

Day 1ARRIVAL IN PUTAO

Putao mountains

On arrival at the Putao airport, quietness and fresh air will add to the unique atmosphere you will immediately notice about this place. Meet and greet by your local guide who will transfer you to hotel for check-in first. Then, after some light food, begin exploration of the town and surrounding villages. Dinner will be served in a local restaurant.

Day 2PUTAO - NAMKHAM VILLAGE - PUTAO

After breakfast, drive to Khaungmulon pagoda, which is said to be one of 8400 pagodas, built by king Asoka in the 3rd century BC. Pagoda is built on the bank of Malikha river and you could enjoy spectacular view of both river and snow capped mountains from pagoda platform. Then continue to drive to Namkham village, which is a village where the local community grows fruits. From there, drive to Namkham waterfall for about 15 minutes. Waterfall is located in the pristine forest and you could feel the atmosphere of being in the nature. The waterfall has 7 steps with crystal clean water. When exploration is done, drive to Naungkhaing village via Machanbow town and Malikha suspension bridge. Your lunch will be served at a local restaurant on the river bank of Malikha, then take a motor boat to visit Fairy Island. Fairy island is a beautiful island on the Malikha river endowed with sleek boulders and untouched nature. From Island, the same boat will take you back to Naungkhaing village and awaiting car will drive you back to Putao. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3PUTAO - TREKKING TO GAMADE WALOW - PUTAO

Start trekking to a small village, called Gamade Walow, through the forest passing relatively high hill for about 4 hours. Lunch will be served in a village situated on the flat land, but surrounded by mountains. You will feel the genuine atmosphere of the countryside, sincere and carefree people. On the way back take different route to Putao for another 4 hours.

Day 4PUTAO – MULASHIDE – PUTAO

Drive to Mulashide village and start trekking to Shadekha along Mular creek, through the hilly forest for about 3 hours. Lunch will be served on the river bank, surrounded by untouched nature and crystal clean water flowing from icy Himalayan mountains up north. After receiving some safety rafting instructions from your guide, start white water rafting and feel the genuine atmosphere of the countryside. As you raft down to Mulashide village for about 1 hour, you will get a change to enjoy pristine and beautiful nature. We stop rafting at a famous Mulashidee suspension bridge, where you can a visit the houses of first American missionaries to the region. Drive back to Putao and have a local dinner.

Day 5DEPARTURE

Wake up early in the morning and visit Myoma Market, where colorful products are displayed by the local tribal folks. Enjoy local breakfast at the market, after that it is worth paying a visit to Khakaborazi National Museum, where varieties of rare flora and fauna spices can be seen. Depending on airport check-in time, you can have some optional visit. Transfer to airport and take a flight to Mandalay. End of services.
