This three days two nights minority village exploration will take you through astonishing hill ranges of northern Shan State. You will encounter friendly Shan and Palaung villagers and learn about the tea farming traditions of the region. Feeling of remoteness is one of the great experiences while trekking on small side tracks surrounded by mighty forested hills and mountains. In this area people still live simple and traditional lives and some of the villages get foreign visitors quite rarely. Trek is moderate level and suited for people with basic health and sense of adventure.

Itinerary

Day 1 Trekking to Mam Bawk Village

Your trekking excursion will start with 30-minute tuk tuk ride through scenic hillside route to Nam Man village. On the way you will see fertile mountain valleys and farming fields. Your trekking route travels along small trails passing through tea plantations and lush mountain forest offering some amazing views of the Shan mountains.
After about two hours trek we make a lunch stop at a scenic local village, and enjoy a home cooked lunch. Visit the old Shan monastery of the village and meet the monks and novices. After lunch continue trekking 2-3 hours following small trail to Mam Bawk Shan-village our overnight rest stop. Here you can get a feel of rural life in Shan State and learn about local tea farming methods which are passed on through generations. The village is sheltered by surrounding mountains and you will get spectacular sunset scenery with felling of solitude.

Day 2Trekking from Mam Bawk to Baung Hone

Early morning wake up with the village and local style breakfast at our homestay. Bid farewell’s to your hosts and continue trek on village tracks gaining altitude. Today’s lunch will be cooked in a small village. Feeling revitalized continue ascent to Lonely Tree Hill which is the highest peak in the region with a rock pile Pagoda on top of it.
Local belief is that if you eat meat before climbing the Lonely Tree Mountain you might lose your way.

After enjoying the spectacular scenery we start descending to Baung Hone village. This village has a small kiosk so you can enjoy a sun-downer beer or soda before dinner. You have also a chance to sample some fresh organic tea produced by the villagers.

Day 3Trekking from Baung Bone to Kyaukme

Early wake up with the rest of the village and enjoy breakfast at the home stay. After farewells to hosts trek to a viewpoint from where you can see all the way to Kyaukme on a clear morning.

We start descending through small trail passing through bamboo forests and forested lush valleys. This part of the trek has a jungle like feel with lots of birds singing around. Your lunch stop today will be in a small village from where you keep descending passing friendly tea farmers villages.

The trek concludes to Hebu village where you will take a 30-minute tuk tuk drive back to Kyaukme.
Rest of the day is for relaxing and exploring buzzing market streets and absorbing the smells and sights of this charming town.
