Putao – Situate 457m 1499ft above sea and located far north of Myanmar in Kachin State, descendent from eastern Himalayan region. Lies in a flat valley, famous as a jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and Snow -capped Mountains. Local tribal communities in Putao region are of Hkamti Shan, Doolin Jimphaw, and white color Rawan, Myanmar’s gypsy Lisu, Pigmy Tarong, hunting community of Htalu and Tibetan who lives in the far north in the Himalayas. Putao town and fort was built during 1914-15 by Commissioner Mr. Hertz which later known as Fort Hertz. Later a Missionary basing the Rawan and Lisu tribe as initial and introduce Grapefruit, Washington Naval, Vlincha Orange, Ruby Oranges, King Orange and Mandarin nlus America Lime were introduced.


Highlights

Kaungmulone – Said to be one of the 84000 pagodas built by Thiri Dhamma Thawka, the great king. Machanbaw –Located across Malikha River, connected by beautiful Malikha suspension bridge.

Mulashidi –Meaning in Lisu “the village stands in the thatch field along Mula River”. Beautifully set up Lisu village lies 14 km south of Putao connected by 159 meters long suspension bridge and provides a fascinating view to the mountains as a backdrop.

Shangaung is one of the big villages on the vicinity of Putao inhabitant of both Lisu and Rawan tribes.

Itinerary

Day 1ARRIVAL IN PUTAO [-/-/D]

Putao mountains

Meet and greet by Putao Trekking House’s representative upon arrival at Putao airport and transferred to lodge, which lies under a shady park. Putao lies in a flat valley, jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains etc. Putao town and fort was built during 1914-15 by Commissioner Mr. Hertz along with Fort which later known as Fort Hertz. Later a Missionary basing the Rawan and Lisu tribe as initial and introduce Grapefruit, Washington Naval, Vlincha Orange, Ruby – King Orange and King Mandarin plus America Lime were-e introduced. After a brief fresh up take a walk around Putao for the orientation. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Putao.

Day 2Putao – Shangaung – Putao (B/L/D)

Travel 10 1/2 miles by car today to a small village located at the foothill of a Mountain called Shangaung. The locals here are extremely welcoming, especially the little ones. Spend some time in the village observing the daily lives of these northerners. There are a few walking trails that you can chose from here. For those strong willed adventurers we recommend attempting Mt. Shangaung which sits at 4606ft above sea level. Return to Hotel Putao in the late afternoon.

Day 3Putao – Kaungmulon — Machanbaw — Mulashidi — Putao (B/L/D)

Early in the morning walk to Putao market, later depart by jeep/coach through the vast Putao plain to Htawadum (14 km,approx.. one hour) . Here we visit famous Kanugmulon Pagoda, said to be one of the 84000 pagodas built by Thiri Dhamma Thawka, the great king. From here we board on local fishermen boats and sail downstream along famous Malikha river to Machanbaw (approx. one hour). Machanbaw, a charming administrative town with beautifully set up in colonial style. We visit in and around town and later walk across suspension bridge and hop on waiting coach which takes us to Mulashidi, (20 mile, approx. one hour). Mulashidi, meaning in Lisu “the village stands in the thatch field along Mula River”. Here we visit another suspension bridge across Mula River and enjoy beautiful surrounding often back drop with snow-capped mountains in distance. Later we return back to Putao and check in at our hotel.

Day 4Walking tour to Community Villages (B/L/D)

Putao mountains.

Breakfast and we walk to Lonsut village, through vast paddy fields, cross over Namhtun creek and walk up to small plateau for a nice over view of Putao valley. Continue walk through beautiful bamboo grove to Hopaing Shan village. Here we visit Buddhist Monastery ‘ where we have the opportunity of meeting friendly -Hkarnti Shan people. Our return walk would be along hamhtun creek with optional visit to some of the Lisu villages on the way. Afternoon we visit Putaung village through paddy field and gardens having small Buddhist Shrine with a back drop of snowcapped Mountains far in the horizon. Return to Putao and check in at hotel.

DAY 5Departure (B/L/D)

Breakfast and perhaps a last-minute shopping at Putao market and further visit in and around Putao with suggestion by our guide. After an early lunch, we transfer to airport for our onward departure flight to conclude this unique experience.
