Visit the magical Golden Rock, Kyaikthiyo a gold leaf covered boulder is peculiarly balancing on the edge of a cliff on top of a mountain range, the original way. Before the narrow and winding road to the golden rock was constructed this path was the main access route people would take on their pilgrimage.
The trail is mostly paved steps with moderate climb and traversing a forest covered mountain range. En route we will meet many local pilgrims and pass by a number of pagodas. After soaking in the special atmosphere of Kyaikhtiyo the “Golden Rock“, we drive to Bago and explore the ancient capital city highlights of Mon kingdom before returning to Yangon.

Early pick-up from your hotel in Yangon, drive 80km/ 1,5hrs to Bago (Pegu) ancient capital of Mon Kingdom for a morning coffee and snack in a local tea shop. Continue 3,5 hrs drive to Kinpun base camp. After lunch we will start our 11km trek to “Golden Rock” Kyaikthiyo. Our trail contours mountain range through partly forest covered hills. On the way we see many pagodas donated by pilgrims who have made this journey.
We gradually ascend to the spine of the range leading to the Golden Rock, where we enjoy magical sunset (weather permitting) and special atmosphere devotees praying, meditating, lighting candles and placing incense sticks and applying extra layers of leaf gold on the boulder peculiarly resting on the edge of a cliff. A little stupa shrine on top of the rock is believed to contain Buddha’s hair relics.

Wake up early for sunrise views and morning walk. Return to hotel for breakfast before descent back to base camp. From Kinpun basecamp we drive to Bago; one of richest archaeological sites in Myanmar. We visit Bago’s highlights; the beautiful Shwe Tha Lyaung, 55m long reclining Buddha and taller than Swedagon, the Shwemawdaw Pagoda. This 114m tall spire is popular pilgrimage site for Buddhist devotees. After lunch we will visit Mon weaving village near Bago and make stops, during our 80km 1,5hr drive to Yangon, at a tree shrine dedicated to a legendary “Nat” spirit; by four giant Buddha images of Kyaik Pun Pagoda and at Allied Troops war cemetery. We will arrive back to Yangon late afternoon and finish the days tour at your hotel.
