Putao Permits

As of 23 December 2016 Putao travel permits to have been suspended until further notice by Myanmar authorities. Traveling to this remote region requires military approval and due to heightened tensions and armed conflict in lower Kachin State, Putao is off the permitted travel destinations list. We will update information on this page when the situation changes and permit applications can be accepted again. So exceptions have been made in the recent months. We started our three days trek with our guide from Kalaw at 8 o’clock in the morning. First we walked couple of hours before having our first resting stop with a beautiful view. We continued through the mountains, tea plantations, jungle paths and small villages to our lunch break spot. Myanmar Trekking Expedition to Phonyin Razi Peak

Our trip started with flight to Mandalay where we spent couple nights exploring the highlights of the old kingdoms. From Mandalay we took couple hours scenic flight to Putao. After refueling in Myitkyina and continuing flight the mountains started growing bigger and we could not see any more signs of human inhabitation. The arrival to Putao came out of nowhere as if it was the only flat area, in the forest covered blanket of mountainous terrain, where planes could land in the north and suitable for farming.
